Imagine my surprise when my wife shows me the cover of the October 2004 Guideposts with Serena Williams photo on it and the caption, "Serena Williams Serving The Spirit." For those that have not heard of the Guideposts, from its own pages, "Guideposts is a monthly inspirational, interfaith, nonprofit magazine written by people from all walks of life. Its articles help readers achieve their maximum personal and spiritual potential."
The magazine carries a four-page article by Serena Williams. I thought it was an offence against the WTS to read published material by others. What is the WTS stance on writing for other publications?
Did she submit this article to the Guideposts because the WTS would not publish it? Here are some thoughts as to why they may not have.
1. First the title: Serving The Spirit. Is this not serving two Gods in the WTS's eyes
2. Actually the title is misleading, in that she is not talking about serving The Holy Spirit, but is she talking about serving or lifting up her own spirit. This sounds self serving and against WTS doctrine.
3. The name Jehovah is never used; God (4 times) and Lord (once) are used when mentioning the Deity.
4. She admits that she prays for herself.

"And I pray, Help me stay strong out here. Help me stay calm and do my best. Thank you, Lord."

Understand that I see nothing wrong with this prayer. It is just not what I understand a good JW to be asking for themselfes.
5. No mention of her work as a JW anywhere in the article.
My next letter is to the Guideposts and find out what they were thinking. They say interfaith, but I had always found that to be inter-Christian-faith.

I have never questioned that the Bible is true. But I always question interpretation of the Bible, it must be consistent with the Bible as a whole.

New 607 info?

i just discovered something i have not seen anywhere before.

i was looking at my old "all scripture inspired" book, and i say old because it was the first edition from 1963 and i had used it for years.

according to the wt cd there were revisions in 1983 and 1990. i came across this little goodie under the book of daniel.

Scholar shows his lack of knowledge of biblical and secular chronology

Follow the Bible or man's interpretation of secular documents. The date of 607 and 624 nicely coincides with the other synchronisms in the biblical record.

But than he tips his hand in his second post

I know the answer and it is rather simple and if you really understand WT chronology then the answer is readily apparent.

It does not matter what the truth is to Scholar, it only matters what the WTS says.

I agree with you that they are anti-Christ. I also prayer for the WTS, that is the Christian way. I also pray for specific halls and specific people.

from the new brochure on page 13 comes this gem: the bible also says that babylon the great lives "in shameless luxuary".

in ancient babylon, the temple organization acquired extensive landholdings, and the priests became prominent in commercial activities.

today, in addition to places of worship, babylon the great has vast commercial holdings.

A question for you managers out there....

i work for a fairly large organization - we have over 35 satelite offices spread out across the state.

there are jw's in some of these satelite offices that i deal with on a regular basis.

i have never had a problem with them because i view work as work, it is a professional environment and each individual is judged based on their work performance.

Sexual Haressment might be hard to prove. But does Dawn want to have to fight it in the first place.

Had a friend that had to fight a discrimination charge. He was caucasian, his wife was Philippino, they had one child of their own, three adopted children: one Chinesse and the other two were Black. Sure he won, but it is was not fun.

Acceptance of this, could also be used by others to say she is showing favoritism to this young lady.

You are right that I am not, nor have I been a JW. But two years ago I became convicted to understand JWs and be prepared to reach out when ever possible. So your comments throw me when I read them. Thank you for answering, I like to be able to back up what i say with WTS literature whenever possible. But I still maybe able to use this information.
